Yesterday afternoon tho Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, laid before members ot the general executive of the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum campaign a statement concerning the return from the recent carnival, various factors had counted against the success of tho carnival, said Mr. Troup, but it was no use arguing those points now. The general fund had benefited by £1197. Tho statement was as follows:— CARNIVAL ACCOUNT. Receipts."

Campbell said that the carnival executive had been of the unanimous opinion that the amount of £50, calculated at 5 perc ent, on the net return, paid to the carnival organiser was altogether an inadequate payment for his services. Ha had done a vast amount of work, and that the carnival was not the success hoped for was not his fault. The carnival executive recommended that a bonus o£ £100 should be paid td Mr. Honey. Other members of the oxecutivo spoke in similar manner.. .'■-.....■ . \. . Sir Harold Beauchamp said that he doubted whether . the meeting had' any right "toi" grant "the" additional amount. Mr. Honey had been quite prepared to accept the work on. 5 per cent., and took. the gamble. Mr. George Shirtcliffe and Mr. P. Myers supported- the carnival executive^ recommendation. The meeting voted Mr. Honey the bonus suggested. GENERAL FUND STILL GROWING. The Mayor announced the following recent contributions to. the general fund, calling attention to the further instalments from the Technical College (making over £600 in all) and to the special contributions collected by the Carillon Society.
