WEAK AND;-TEAR M MATCHES
Australian Press Association—CnU«J Scrrlc*. N (Eeceived Bth March,' 2.30 p.m.)
LONDON, 7th March,
"It would ,not be surprising," says the "Morning Post" editorially, "if ,Australia beats Chapman's band • of ibrothers. Thel team is not as. strong as-it'was owing :to wear; and. tear, long journeys, sub-tropical .wqather, and the •rieryous strain of six-day.matches. For Englishmen a season's; cricket: in Australia is like -an exile from their green land corrffortable playing fields, cwhile it is always a war of- attrition. . Let .us hope that; the final '-'Test 1 will not be marred by outrageous^ barracking as stated during the preposterous demonstration against Larwood, due to a type of ,i larrikin known as 'Woollooniooloo yank,' who wishes to 1 see his .men win at any. cost. Let us .hope ■ such nuis.aiices will be vigorously, suppressed by a. more sporting majority." v
'Mr; P. ¥.. "Warner, commenting on the absence of Chapman, says that his batting has been disappointing, but that his wonderful fielding is a positive inspiration. He is the sort of cricketer who makes an incomparable catch which wins a match. Furthermore, he has uncommon ability as a leader. "I am sorry that lie will not be in. at what I hope will be the kill of the kangaroo." He says that the third and fourth Tests gave a definite impression that there is little td choose between the two teams. He had faith in England, but the tourists will miss Chapman's fielding. He also regrets that Ames has not been changed for the Test match, and prophesies a big batting future for Duckworth.: !
