OBITUARY
MR. GEORGE B. CHRISTIE
A well-known and highly-respect resident of Wellington, Mr. George B. Christie, local manager of the New Zealand Express Company, died yesterday. Mr. Christie had been ailing for some years, and had been under medical treatment. The deceased l> was born in Dunedin in 1871, and at an early age'entered the service of the New Zealand Express Company, making steady advancement, and being appointed manager of the Wellington branch 15 years ago. He was a first-class accountant, and his knowledge of the law relating to carriage by land and sea, and Customs Tariff, was generally recognised. His death (which was not unexepected, as he had never recovered from a serious illness a year ago) will be regretted by a large circle of friends, who recognised and appreciated'his many sterling qualities.- . Tho late Mr. Christie for years took a keen interest in the" Wellington Orphans Club, and was a valued member of its committee.- Ho was for many years a member of the Commercial Travellers' Club. Until his recent illj ness he took an active part in all movements of a humanitarian nature, doing this work in tV but thorough manner which was characteristic of him. Mr. Christie leaves a widow and daughter,'arid many relatives in various parts of New Zealand, one brother being Mr. J. Bruce Christio, solicitor to the State Advances Department Head Office, Wellington. The funeral will' take place on Saturday morning. . • '■',-..'>■•;■
