HUTT CLUB
The annual report of the Hutt Rugby Football Club states that performances generally did not. come up to expectations last season, but the hope is held out that there will be a big improvement this year. A few matches in the senior B grade, last season were sufficient to show that the football in this grade was of a. very .high standard, competition being more keen than in the A grade. The Hutt team, however, was affected by injuries and sickness, and anticipations of securing championship honours were not realised, though a final victory over the championship winners enabled Hutt to finish runnersnp. Numerous players had been transferred from other districts since last season, and there was good prospect of the Hutt Club securing many new members. With regard to the club's lower grade teams the report states that the foundation has been laid for a very good junior team, and that it is the desire of the club to run sixth and seventh grade teams this season in addition to those which took part in competitions last season. On the subject of entering teams the committee points out that the entry or withdrawal of teams after the competitions are started is unsatisfactory, and would be avoided if players gave the committee definite information regarding their intentions. The committee would thon be able to make, a fairly correct estimate of the entries to be made. The report deals with various other matters, and pays tribute to all who gave assistance. The financial statement shows the club to be in a good position, although there was a loss on the year's working.
The winners of trophies were:—Wallace C. James Cup, senior team; Mr. B. Matthews's trophy, for the most improved player, W. E. Jarman; and Mr. E. C. Russell's medal, for the best disciplined player, H. A. Smith. The club's annual meeting takes place tonight.
