ATTRACTING THE EYE

dominion: publicity

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

: LONDON, 22nd January. Both show windows at New Zealand House are of unusual interest at the present time, and are the cause of a certain amount of obstruction on the footpath in the Strand. ■

In the smaller window is to be seen tho head and sword of a 6731b broadbill swordfish. This was caught off Russell by Mr. H. White Wickham on 9th January, 1928. Mr. Wickham brought the head home with him, and he has had it stuffed and mounted by Messrs. Hardy Bros., the well-known sports firm of Piccadilly. At the request of the High Commissioner, Mr. Wickliam kindly consented to let the head be shown. Tho total length of the fish was 14ft 7in, and the girth sft lin, and there is quite enough of it mounted to give a iVery good indication of the size of the.monster;. In the same window are displayed the rod and tackle used in the capture of the fish, and" a set of photographs illustrating the sport. As a background to the window there is a transparency, of a fishing scene, there is Mr. Rountree's picture of a leaping swordfish, and there ar© two' pennants which are flown from the masthead of a motorlaunch when. a, swordfish; is hooked. .

.The larger show window is advertising the produce o£ the Dominion. The arrangement is well balanced, excellently lighted with "sunshine" effects, and certain movinjf devices are .bound :to attract attention. On the left is a model shop belonging to ', "John Bull," grocer. In this a working model of a bee hands out in rotation placards calling • attention to the merits of "Imperial Bee" honey, while a lady shopper looks on. In the centre of the window is-a small model of a cow Which moves its head and swings its tail. On'the right is.a territorial globe around which revolve, model ships. There are cheeses, boxes o£ .butter, jars of honey, and three wax carcasses of lamb. A number ot printed notices proclaim the excellence of New Zealand, produce.
