TEAMS AND BUSES
WHY THEY DO NOT WAIT
People- who use the bus from Karaka Bay to the Seatoun tram terminus have a grievance concerning the practice of sonio motormen of starting their trams' just as tho bus pulls in. One resident, very wet and not a little annoyed,spoke plainly about tho matter to-day. "It's high- time," he-said, "that there was some co-operation between, that ,bus and the trams. Now, take this morning, for instance. The bus had about twenty passengers, but just as it got to the terminus awuy- went tho car.' It meant that wo had- to wait for the next car. This very-an-noying thing has happened several times of late, and as we have a tea minutes' sorvieo the next car is very; congested, and the trip into' town ■is made uncomfortable. There have been, complaints before to the department, but nothing has been done." • ;
Residents of Northland have a somewhat similar complaint to make with regard to bus drivers who do not stop at the foot of Northland road when »' tram-car arrives at the tunnel itpre, cither from the city or from Karoi'i. This is "Said to.be a cause of loss -tit revenue.
The matters above were referred -to officers of the Tramway Traffic Depart* ment, who said that such occurrence* were certainly not in accord with, tram* way policy, and would probably be explained by the fact that the- tramway] motormen moved off in accordance with a fixed time-table. Buses might be- run* ning at twenty or thirty-minute inter* vals, and cars at ten or as littlo as three-minute intervals, and as buses were frequently delayed, particularly, in bad weather, by many stops for passengers, the tramway motorman might move off, knowing that he would ba followed by another tram in a few minutes. Even so, no motovman was likely; to leave if he knew that a bus w?s within a minuto or two of the tram terminus.
