JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS
DECISION IN THREE WEEKS
Asked to-day if he was yet in a position to make an announcement in regard to the suggestion that junior high schools should be' established throughout the Dominion, the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. Atmore) said that he would make a statement on (the subjoct in. about three weeks.
: A combined conference of the ;teachers of :theNew Zealand Educational Institute, the Secondary Schools Association,. * and the Technical School Teachers' Association; he :'said, would be held in May, : and'they were asking that he should withhold making a pronouncement until thenj.but he could ;not consent to such'a measure of delay.' However,-he was anxious' -to V'confer' jwith the teachers, and he was.meeting ithe difficulty by offering' to' meet the' executives of. the three, bodies referred to some time wtihin the next ithree or ifou'r weeks., '.-.,.. ; . .
Mr. Atmore added that school buildings were being asked for all over the Dominion, and these requests were being held up pending a decision; obviously, if junior high schools were decided upon, some of the buildings and oxteiisions which were being asked ior would not be needed, as the junior high schools would tako pupils from the present schools and make more accommodation available.
