RIVER SILTING UP

ALARM IN WAIKATO DISTRICT

HAMILTON, This Day.

A conference was held at .Hamilton to-day to discuss the silting and flooding of the Waikato River. Bepresentativos were present from a. wide area. The meeting resolved unanimously to recommend the appointment, of a Waikato Conservation Board.

Mr. W. L. Martin, M.P., said that.he hoped to arrange for a tour of inspection of the river and the district by the Minister of Public Works and members of Parliament, commencing about 18th March.'

The statements at tho meeting - alleged that the silting had greatly increased, and considerable areas 'of farm land were useless through the frequent flooding. The railways as well as tho road will have to be raised if the silting is not checked.
