YOUNG WOMAN KILLED
INSTANT "DEATH

HAWERA, This Day. As tho result of falling in front of a fast moving train, Gladys Ethel Evans, a young married woman, residing with her husband, W. R. Evans, at Hawera, was killed instantly on the Turuturu road level crossing half a mile from the Hawera station about ten o'clock this morning. The train was a mixed goods and passenger travelling south from New Plymouth to Hawera. When about a quarter of a mile from the crossing the fireman and the driver saw a woman standing alone at the side of tho crossing. The whistlowaa sounded, and it appeared a,a if the woman was waiting for the train to pass. As the train approached she commenced to move along the cattle stop, steadying herself with her hand on the guard rail. Just as tho engine reached (the cattle stop, she appeared to fall Across the rail directly beneath tho catcher.
The body was practically cut to pieces, the upper portion being mutilated almost beyond recognition. Identification was established through a receipt found and the clothing.
