JUVENILE ORCHESTRA.
On Thursday evening, 7th March, pupils from Hawera Main Primary School and Hawera Technical School will give a concert; in Wellington Town Hall at 8 o'clock. The concert will embrace Items by an orchestra of 56, trained and conducted by Mr. H. C. A. Fox, and also vocal and Instrumental items and recitations. Great Interest should attach to this concert, which will show what can bo done with school children by enthusiastic teachers of music. ■ The orchestra began In 1926 as a flute band, but has been developed by Mr. Fox (conductor of Hawera Borough Band) into its present nourishing condition. It now includes some '26 violins, together with piccolo, llutes, oboe, clarinets, cornets, horns, althorns, euphoniums, trombone, drums, and'piano. The concert will be of a popular nature and should appeal to everybody. It is to bo hoped that local schools will attend in force. This visit is largely due to interest displayed in the orchestra by the, Right Hon. J. G. Coates, who was much struck with a performance which he heard, ttfem give last year. Tho orchestra has also been highly praised by Mr. E. Douglas Tayler, tho Supervisor of School Music to the Education Department.
