FARMERS' DISPUTE
ONE MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED

TE KUITI, This Day.
John Appleton, aged 40, a single man, a farmer, twelve .miles from Te Kuiti, is in a critical condition in the hospital as the result of injuries received in a dispute over water rights on Saturday afternoon. Appleton was successfully operated on on Sunday night, but his condition is still serious. .
In a statement to the police the injured man alleged that during a dispute with John M'Kay Smith and Neils Theodore Larsen, neighbouring, farmers, he was struck on the head with A piece of limestone. He went to his wliaro, and was later discovered, by a passerby and taken to a nearby house. A doctor was summoned, and Appleton was sent to the hospital with ;a serious wound in his head. ; < -
Larsen and Smith were arrested, and appeared, before 1 two Justices of • the Peace on Sunday. They were remanded to appear on Tuesday, morning, ,and were released on bail at £200.
