MALE DRESS REFORM

A START IN CIIIIISTCHOHCH

Christchureh seems to be taking itself seriously in the direction of dress reform for men, and a meeting held under tho chairmanship of Dr. Thaeker drew quite a number of interested men and ten women (states the "Lyttelton Tiiiics"). Those present discussed tho question seriously. Dr. Thacker spoko of the Glacial Age, and tho gradual development of dress. Mr. W. Hall stated that Auckland also was making a move in tho direction of reform of men's dress, and moved tho following resolution: "That this meeting approves of tho formation o£ the league now known as the Summer Dress Heform League for Men, and endorses all that lias already been done in tho introduction of saner and healthier clothing for men, and also places on record its approval of the wearing of tho canoe open-neck shirt by its members in their business.' 1

This was seconded, but Mr. W. H. Joyce stated thnt lie would prefer to see principles rather than details adopted, and he moved the following amendment: "That this meeting approves of tho .formation of tho league now known as the Summer Dress ltoforin League for Men, advocates the wearing of clothes light in weight and colour (an interjector "and light in price"), and discarding hard or unhygienic collars, ties, and waistcoats."

Tho amendment was seconded by Mr, W. Drury, and 1 carried unanimously.

. After Mr. C. H. E. Graham and Mr. J. R. Deveroux had spoken, nominations were taken for officers and committee members, who were elected aa follows: —Chairman, Dr. Thacker; secretary, Mr. E. A. Eiddell; treasurer, Mr. W. C.' Hall; committee, Mesdames Thaeker and E. Eastwood, Messrs. A. Sony, W. 11. Joyce, J. B. Devereux, 0. H. B. Graham, and Captain J. W. Orampton. ,

A meeting of. the executive was held afterwards to discuss plans for tho future. It was resolved to interview tho heads of business houses and schools with a view to interesting them in dress reform, and to invito tho Hon. A. J. Stalhvorthy, Minister of Health, to become patron of the movement. A button badge to be worn by members is in preparation.
