QUARTERLY RETURNS

POST AND TELEGRAPH REVENUE

Figures showing the withdrawals from and deposits in the Post Office Savings Bank during the quirter ended 31st December, 1928, were published in the "Gazette" last evening.

Deposits for the three months amounted to £6,784,178 13s sd, as against £7,152,----342 2s 6d for the fourth quarter in 1927, and withdrawals amounted to £7,187,755 Is Bd, as against £7,909,573 15s 4d for the corresponding period last year. The largest excess of withdrawals was at Dunedin, and the only centres showing an excess o£ deposits were Nelson (£7697), New Plymouth (£23,604), .Palmerston North (£10,377), and Karotonga (£1095). Money orders issued amounted to £1,231,----098, an increase of £10,402, and money orders paid to £1,119,330, a decree 9 of £6962.

Bevenue derived by the Post and Telegraph Department for the three months amounted to £960,629, as against £883,817 for the lust three months of 1927. The principal returns were from the following districts:—General Post Office, £51,616; Auckland, £226,306; Ckristehurch, £131,----128; Dunediu, £45,616; Napier, £27,626; New Plymouth, £23,267; Palmerston North, £37,943; Wanganui, £29,599; Wellington, £186,080.
