REACTION IN GERMANY

Australian Press Association—United Sorvlce. (Received 28th January, 1 p.m.) BERLIN, 27th January. The Republican and Democratic newspapers do not comment on the exKaiser's birthday celebrations at Doom, but all the Nationalist journals combine in describing him as a maligned

man, not deserving his fate. They contend that it has been proved he tried to prevent war, and always sought peace. Every newspaper, except the Monarchist Press agrees that the Eopublic is so iirinly established that it cannot be shaken by a Hoheiizollorn attuck. \V ilh elm must bo regarded as the last of tho German Kaisers. Thousands of the old generation still regard the ex-Kaiser with veneration. Monarchist organisations met throughout the country and sent loyal messages to Doom. Ex-soldiers, "Steel Helmet" men and ex-Imperial army and navy bodies, despatched messages. Even the Nationalist leaders sent congratulations. s ■
