Lord Melchett (formerly Sir Alfred Monti) emphasised that the relations between Capital and Labour in England hadSbeen' better organised and had been carried on with a better feeling. There was inoro common-sense and humanity than'in any country he knew. The Mond-Turner conference was important, becauso it' was jointly recognised that amelioration in living conditions could only result in industrial prosperity. Whatever happened now, tho participants would feel that they had rendered their country a service. They had entered- tho conference with a common feeling of brotherhood.
