Mr. X C. Surtees, of Midclleton-in-Tees-dale, recently found a pure white house sparrow, scarcely able to fly, and placed it in a c;iro some 300 yards away. The parent birds and tour younger ones went and fluttered round the cage in an apparent endeavour to release it. Mr. Surtees liberated it, and it flew away with the rest of the family. There was no sign of colour in the feathers, and the bird's eyes were pink. BETTER THAN THE BATHS. Incident at Rotorua. An insurance man spent a holidaj recently at Rotorua. Ho contracted s cold and did not seem to be able tc shake it off. A Masterton friend hap pened to be there, and he said, "I-'Ji soon settle that cold for you."
