A question is being raised as to tho legality of General Booth's reply to tho High Council's request ' that ho should retire. It was completed last night.
"It is not a refusal to retire," say.s the "Daily Mail," f'but a declaration that ho has no power to do so."
The- "Daily Mail" says that it is a flat refusal to retire in the meanwhile. Dramatic developments arc promised when, the High Council resumes to-morrow as a result of doubts regarding the legality of the Council's decision to ask the General to retire.
"According to the Army's deed poll the Council only possesses . power to depose the General on the ground of unfltness to continue leadership," a Salvationist official told the "Daily Mail." "The General has not tho power to retire. If ho does, it is highly probable that he will bo acting illegally. This fact will be brought to the Council's notice, probably forcing reconsideration of the position afresh. The Council may refuse to' do so, whereupon the matter may be decided in the Courts."
