ANTARCTIC STORM

HEAVY GALE AND* SNOW

BYRD'S EXPEDITION

(By Russell.Owen—Wireless to "New

York Times.") Aboard the City of New York,

BAY OF WHALES, 11th Jan. N The expedition is., amid a bad snowstorm. It was with much difficulty that'the ship was prevented from being blown away from the icefield to which it was secured with anchors. The men ashore are safe and snug in tents, but it is feared'that the walls of the house which was only half-erected will be blown down during the storm. Visibility is almost nothing. r ■ At 4 o'clock this morning, when the storm approached, the dog teams were unharnessed, and everybody told to take much-needed rest until the storm was over, so they ,-are in tents inside their reindeer sleeping bags/ A temporary kitchen has been set up, consisting of canvas and food boxes. The Eleanor Boiling's departure from New Zealand has been delayed for at least two days. Mr. Brophy is in charge there. The expedition truly has reason to b& thankful for the excellent equipment he has secured. .
