DEADLOCK IN SENATE
WAR WITH BRITAIN PREDICTED Australian Press Association. WASHINGTON, 9th Jan. The Senate's legislative deadlock over : the Kellogg Treaty, the Cruiser Bill, and farm relief, became hopeless to-day, when efforts to reach a settle- | nient were 'abandoned and ■' opponents to the Treaty threatened to start a filibuster which would indefinitely delay the measures. ' Meanwhile the settlement of other Bills grows more remote. The Preservationists continued the Treaty debate, led by Senator Blame, who urged that it was a one-sided declaration of British policy, certifying that nations control the Empire, "with the recognition o£ the new British imperialism by America. ,The two great English-speaking nations of the world were preparing' themselves for a con-^ test hi the division of the world, a competitive struggle for lands, commerce, raw materials,. and resources. Concurrent with the Treaty is the big navy programme: What .other does it niean than war? .This Treaty is not even a truce. It is the beginning of a most stupendous struggle for, world dominion and territorial aggrandisement. The clash may not come in our time, but the Treaty portends early conflict." . , He added: "First a commercial war would come, then one that none but an infinite'mind can contemplate." He said that the Treaty would "legalise Britain's betrayal of the promise of Egyptian, independence." . . j
