"DID IT FOR A JOKE"
'"We only: did-it for a joke/ said Charles .Gay, who with Henry Coronno pleaded guilty in ■ the; Magistrate 'B Court to-day to "stealing an electric light globe, valued at Is 9d, the property of A. V.' Swanson. The accused wore also' charged with behaving in a disorderly manner in Biutoul street, but pleaded not guilty to this charge. Sub-Inspector Lander said that the two accused, with another lad, who would lie charged in the ■ Children's Court, were returning to the city from Island: Bay about 12 6'clock one night recently. When in the vicinity of Athletic Park they were singing and dancing and jumping about in such a manner that tEey attracted the attention of a passer-by. He saw, the accused, go to a hoarding and take two electric light globes.- One was apparently smashed on the path. The matter was reported to a constable, who accosted the accused, and one bulb was produced from a watertabla where it had been hidden. The Magistrate (Mr. E. Page, S.M.) said that he thought the evidence fell short of' proving that the acciised behaved in a disorderly manner, and that charge would be dismissed.
