SHOP ON FIRE
; : SIGNS OP BURGLARY ' ■'The premises.'■ of Mr. E. T. Shearer, draper and mercer, Main street, Lower Hutt, were broken into and set on fire early this morning. The discovery was made by a passer-by at 3.30 a.m., who saw the flames in. the building. The Fire Brigade was immediately notified, and very shortly after the fire was under: control, the. brigade rendering excellent service. An; investigation, showed that a wooden panel in a side door leading to a passage way, and giving access to the building, had. been, broken. The fire was confined entirely to the' mercery department, the contents of which, xvere very considerably damaged by, : fire..and -water. -No estimate has yet-been made.eithor of goods stolen or -destroyed, by fire. - Apart from broken windows and door, and damage | by, smoke and water, the building was ndt injured. ..Both premises and. stock, were insured, but the amounts are not j yet available. -. . .. • I
