' - , >■ Employees of the Wellington Gast Company gathered yesterday to farowell Mr. A. M. Taylor, appointed, en-gineer-manager of the , Timaru Gas Company. The general manager (Mr. M. J. Kennedy) presided, and the different working' departments and their responsible heads wero well represented. On behalf of tho employees Mr. Kennedy presented Mr. Taylor with a gold watch and .chain, suitably inscribed. ' Speaker's wcro'Messrs'. THe sentiments exchanged were of the best. The death occurred yesterday in Dunedin of Mr. John O'Shea, father of Mr. John O'Shea, City. Solicitor, of Wellington. Tho late Mr. O'Shea, an octogenarian, had served for many years under Sir -Robert Stout, when the former Chief Justice was a practising barrister in Dunedin. He was .predeceased by his wife. Other- members of the family, besides Mr. John O'Shea, are Mr. Thomas O'Shea, solicitor, of Dunedin; Mr. K. o 'Shea,' Eegistrar of the Auckland University; Mr. Alex. O'Shea, a clerk in tho Wellington Tramways Department; : and Miss O'Shea, of the Child Welfare Department. Mr. John O'Shea was summoned to Dunedin on Wednesday. Mr. W. D. Eevington, who has been appointed engineer to the Christehurch Tramway Board from 52 applicants, was educated at Nelson College. After experience in Now Zealand workshops, lie travelled extensively in Britain, the United States,,and on the Continent, attending lectures on engineering subjects. His practical experience included a period spent in 'the Thornycroft workkshops at Southampton and Basing-stoke. He spent some time at sea, obtaining his marine certificate. Mr. Eevington was for a period in, the service of tho Greymouth 'Harbour Board. He obtained a commission dirring the war by examination and, after suffering wounds, joinedthe Koyal Air Force. After the war ho was appointed to a position under .the Public Works Department at tho Horahora hyro-electric 'works. Later ho joinod the staff of the Christehurch Tramway Board, his experience including work in the carshed and power station.. For some time ho has teen chief ongineer at the power station.
