ADVICE TO FARMERS
PREPARE FOR UPS AND DOWNS (By Telegraph.) (Special to "the Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. Viscount Hainpden, who has been touring Otago and Southland, in an intorviow, said that it was very satisfactory to know that tho fanning community had had a good year, and, although it was unwise and foolish to prophesy, the'prospects for the future seemed to bo very good. The farmers had been through bad times, and it remained for them now to profit by a period of • prosperity and to prepare for any future ups and downs in their industry. lie, had not yet had the pleasure of seeing the North Island, but he was surprised that there was not a far greater number of' tourists visiting tho South Island. There was nothing he thought that could exceed the beauty of the scenery or the hospitality of tho 1 people, to whom he paid a. warm tribute. He had been 'much impressed with the facilities for sport, although, ho had not so far had much time to. take advantage of them. His party had only recently secured a catch of thirty salmon at Lako To Anau, a, fact which ho considered, spoke for itself. The ninds, he considered, were surprisingly good in view of the comparatively small use that there was for for them, and the consequent small amount of revenue available. The best roads the party had encountered were in Southland. Viscount Hampden and his party will remain in the South Island for four weeks before undertaking a tour of the North Island.
