THE OTAGO TEAM

.SOUND COMBINATION' (By Telcoraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") DUNEDI'N, This D;.y. .It is unfortunate that M'Mullan, fc-hep-licrd, and Dickinson are not available, to play for Otago m the first Phmket Shield engagement of the season against Wellington oil 2-ith December, but with the exception of these players thu team chosen to do battle for the province is about as .strong a side as could be;got together, and with two exceptions the players are identical with those mentioned as probable selections last week. One player from North Otago has been included, but Zimmerman is not nev/ to representative cricket, aud should' certainly strengthen the team. The side is quite a sound combination, comprised mainly of players who should be capable of making a lot of runs. It will be captained by A. W. Alloo, who has had experience previously of leading the Otago team, and is one of the best j all-rounders in the province. Blunts highest total in club cricket this season . has been 30, but no Otago team would be complete without him, u.ud he, is certain to make runs before the representative season ends. The . professional coach, L. C. Eastman, is bound to be one of the mainstays of tho team, both m batting and bowling, and while he has not yet had much opportunity here with the bat he has done well in bowling. Last season the Essex professional did well with the Otago team. Elmes, Eastman, A. W. Alloo, R. C. Blunt, Douglas, H. C. Alloo, and Zimmerman are all capable of taking wickets, though the mainstays will probably be Elmes, Eastman, and A. W. Alloo. The Wellington cricket team to meet Otago in the Pluuket Shield match at the Basin Reserve, commencing on 24th December, has been subjected to another change through the withdrawal of K. H. O. Mackenzie. The selector (Mr. K. H. Tucker) has chosen W. A. Baker (Midland) in place of Mackenzie, and N. Gallichan (Manawatu), if available, will fill the vacancy caused by tho inability of K. de H. Worker to play. Wellington's team is now as follows: —T. Lowry (Hawkes Bay), captain, C. S. Dempster (Institute), H. Foley (Institute), W. A. Baker (Midland), N. Gallichan (Manawatu), K. C. .Tames (Old Boys), F.T. Badcock (Old Boys), H. M. M'Girr (Hutt), H. Lambert (Old Boys), M. Henderson'(lnstitute), and G. A. Kotherham (Petone).
