Seven members of the Government, including MM. Poincare, Briand, Loucheur, and Leygues, are now involved, through articles they "are alleged to have contributed to the "Gazette du France," or the affiliated "Gazette des Nations." "Humanite" publishes the facsimile of a letter from a page of the "Gazette du Prance," written by M. Poincare, and also charges leading newspapers with having sold space to Madame Hanau to the value of nearly £2500 a month. This was filled with financial news supplied from the "Gazette." There is no doubt that Madame Hanau cleverly exploited articles on general topic? written by distinguished people, but none except the Communists believe that these writers know they were being exploited. The Magistrate tints far hns received 700 complaints from all classes—humble folk, Government officials, and social personages. The police continue to search the palatial offices occupied hy Madame Hanau and her staff. Madame Marke Hanau and her divorced husband, Lazarc Bloch, wero arrested in connection with alleged fraudulent financial operations. The news spread very rapidly, and panicstricken investors rushed to the sumptuous marble-fronted offices from which Madame, with Bloch and a staff of 250, directed enormous operations. It was stated that the sum involved was over a million sterling. Madame Hanau, besides running the "Gazette du Franco," formed five share-investing companies, and had four thousand agencies in France and abroad.
