BED CROSS SOCIETY

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The monthly meeting of the peace time executive of the Wellington Branch of the Bed Cross Society was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. INT. Grunt presiding. Tliero were also present: Mesdames C. 11. Chapman, D. Moore, C. S. Wright, F; T. Clark, Sisters Lewis and Lees, Mr. C. 11. Chapman, and the secretary, Mr.M. S. Galloway. The secretary reported that the net. profits from the recital given by the touring blind boys' band were £88 14s lOd. The Hod Cross Fair had realised £110 3s Id. He had interviewed the Moera Community Sports and Ratepayers' League in connection with tho proposed nurse to visit the suburban districts and give medical advice. He had asked what assistance the league would be prepared to give, and in reply had received a cheque for £10 and an offer of the local hall on three days a week. Ho had notified the league that the nurse would probably be commencing her duties at the beginning of February next. Tho secretary also repotted in connection with assistance given in the way of clothes to a man discharged from prison, and the-question was asked as to whether such gifts were over repaid. "1 could point to at least 150 cases," said Mr. Galloway, "where men, have gone out promising to pay us back, but I know of only one case where a man is making a conscientious attempt to do so." A much-appreciated gift had boon received during the month from Mr. C. J. J. Hollway, who had forwarded to tho Society 43'cases of rhubarb to be distributed among various charitable institutions. The donor was a poor man himself and the gift was very highly appreciated. The' Ladies' Auxiliary reported that £17 17s had been raised at a jumble stall in aid of the fund for tho Queen of Shcb.i in the Museum and Art Gallery campaign. The society acknowledged gifts of clothing from Miss Morris, of 339, The Terrace, and Miss Gibson. The society is grateful to the following members of the medical and nursing professions who have given assistance in the examining of Red G'roisK students: Dr. T. M'Kibbin, Director of Public Hygiene; Dr. W. Kerr-Hislop; Dr. . Leslie Cf. Austin; Sister L. Lea, Nurse Inspector of Hospitals for the Health Department, Wellington; Matron I. M'Rae, Bed Cross Hospital; Miss Allen; Mrs. Hanna; Mrs. W. D. Ferguson; Mrs. K. T. Jcnssen; Miss Wliitelaw; Miss Faber; Sister Prosser, Home Sister, Wellington Hospital; Sister Jorgensen, Public Hospital; Miss Lambie; Miss Orsman; Miss Scott; Miss Uniackc.
