OBITUARY
LIEUT.-COLONEL ANDREWS (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thia Day. Lieut.-Col. C. E. Andrews, 0.8. E., Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-. General, Northern Command, was found dead at his' home at- Remuora this, morning. Ho had not been on duty since Friday. His. wife.is nbs.ent in the South Island. Colonel Andrews, whoso death, will be sincerely mourned by all who knew him, was 53 years of age. In his early manhood ho jointod the Old VolunteerForce, serving in the ranks in tho Wellington Naval Artillery "Volunteers, for five years, and then for two years in the. Cromwell Rifles, Otago, .when he received a commission in No. I Company, Now Zealand Engineer Volunteers, rising ultimately to the rank of Captain. On the inception of the new defence scheme in 1911' he joined tho New Zealand Staff Corps- as a Lieutenant, and during- the Groat War served .iv France, Belgium, Egypt,' and Gal-, lipoli, rising to the rank of Major, and second-in-command of tho Otago Regiment and being . mentioned .. in.-des.. patches. He received the 0.8. E. for his services. On his return to Now Zealand, he was promoted Lieut.- Colonel, and served for two years as Assistant Adjutant-General at Defenco Headquarters. When the retrenchment schemewas introduced he was regraded Major, and posted to command. No. 2 Regimental District, with headquarters at Pacroa. He -was promoted to Lieu.t.Colonel and Assistant-Adjutant and Quartermaster-General, Northern Command, in December of last year.
