"DIGNIFIED AND PROPER"
It is gratifying to note that the course taken by Mr. Coates in having Parliament convened is fully approved by representative newspapers which are independent or 'favour the United Party. In tho United Party itself there was a suggestion that the election result called for immediate resignation by Mr. Coates and his Cabinet, and in somo Reform quarters there was a dosire to follow this course so that there might bo no suspicion of an attempt to cling to office. It is recognised, however, in the United Press that the short delay involved in meeting Parliament is fully justifiable in order that the standing of independent members may bo placed on record. As tho Christchurch "Star" states, Mr. Coates has taken "a dignified and proper course."
