CRICKET CONTROL
REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES Various matters in connection with this season's representative fixtures were discussed at last night's meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association's Management Committee, over which Mr. P. B. Broad presided. The announcement of the team to represent Country against Town at the Basin Reserve on Friday and Saturday of next week was received with satisfaction, the selection being regarded by the committee as final. In the event of any defections from the "side, from which Wanganui and Taranaki players were already omitted on account of a Hawke Cup trial, the committee felt, however, that the advisability of going pn with the fixture would have to be reconsidered. It was decided that the Town selector (Mr.. K. H. Tucker) be asked to make his selection as soon as possible. Proposals in regard to dates for the Otago-Wellington' Plunket Shield match, to be played at Wellington at Christmas time, were discussed at considerable length, but the committee was not able to come to a definite decision until a further communication with Otago. This was to be made right away, and it was anticipated that finality would be reached to-day. The difficulty in settling the dates for the match was created through the Basin Reserve not being made available to cricket on Boxing Hay, and consideration was given to ways and means of overcoming this obstacle. In the event of the match being played at the Basin Reserve, which, of course, was desirable, there appeared to be little chance of avoiding a break of one day during the match.
