TECHNICAL SCHOOL
BUILDING PBOGBAMME Further correspondence was rgeeivcd from the Minister of Education (the Hon R. A. Wright) by the Wellington Technical, College Governors last evening in reference to the addition's required at the technical college. The Minister, in a letter dated 30th October, said that owing to an oversight. the board's previous letter had not been acknowledged, but there was no intentional discourtesy. Till there was something definite, between the Education Board and the City Council regarding the' purchase of the'block of buildings in Mercer street and Wake-, field street, he was unaWe to provide the necessary funds. To take £30,000 out. of the. year's grant at the present moment would practically deplete it and leave him nothing with which to carry on urgent and necessary work t'.U 31st March. If anything could bo done which would givo him an indication as to when the money would bo paid, perhaps tho Treasury might make provision for the necessary funds. Ho knew the building was necessary, but ho did feel that ho was embarrassed by tho demands that were boing made hero and elsewhere for education. Mr. C. H. Chapman said he thought tho board ought to note the admission made by tho Minister that the buildings were needed. Mr.. J. Read: "I think he made- the admission before." Mrs. Mf Vicar: "He's too late now." Mr. W. H. Bennett (chairman) suggested that the Education Board as well as the City Council might be advised of the, letter. On the motion of Mr. Chapman, it was decided to send a copy of the letter to the City Council and to the Education Board.
