PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzie) presided, and there were also present Councillors D. M'Carthy, A. Scholefield, E. N. Campbell, J. Ashby, J. dimming, YV. H. Edwards, V. E. Jacobson, and J. AY. Longman. Tiie question of providing water and drainage for properties fronting Wakefield street, north of the railway line within the Borough of Petone, which had been referred to the Town Clerk (Mr. W. F. Stnriuan) was finalised. Following on the lines of proposals submitted by him, the Lands Department wrote agreeing to bear the cost of providing sewerage aud water connections to each property as sold. For a payment by the Petone Council of £i in per house per annum the Lower Hutt Borough Council offered to render water, drainage, and refuse-collecting services to tho houses concerned, tho Petone Council to collect full rates. Both offers were accepted. Objection was raised in a petition to the number of dwellings erected on one section in Graham street. The petition, bcariug four signatures, stated that there were two dwellings and two garages on the section and'that the owner had recently converted ono of tho garages into another dwelling. It was considered that this had a detrimental effect on neighbouring properties. The sanitary inspector (Mr. W. B. Gough) reported that ho had visited the place. The owner had permits i'ov two dwellings and two garages, and accordingly "would not be allowed to convert one of the garages into a dwelling. Proceedings would also be taken against him for infringing tho borough building bylaw.
