AUCKLAND SALE
BRADFORD BUYS FREELY (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The first big selection of top making wool offered in New Zealand this season excited remarkably keen and highly represeutative bidding at the opening of the first Auckland wool sale of the year. Prices on the average exceeded those of the first sale last year by a penny per pound. There was a full bench- of buyers, representative of nearly all the wool consuming centres of the world. The clip was generally heavier in condition and more greasy than wools so far offered throughout the Dominion. Prices realised were approximately on a par with those obtained at the Wellington, Wanganui, and Napier sales; but, having regard to the circumstances named, they were really better than they appeared. France, Germany, and Bradford secured the bulk of the evening's offering. Bradford in particular operated much more freely than at the opening sale last year. Bellies and pieces showed a rise of ■about 2d per pound on values of the November, 1927, auction. Strong wools particularly sold better than' last year, and fine wools in many cases showed improvement upon realisations at other sales this season. But few lots were "passed in." The top price 'of the evening was realised by nine bales of reclassed halfbred wethers, which sold for 25d per pound. The sale is being continued to-day. Assuming a value of £25 per bale for the total offering, there will be £500,000 to be distributed in a fortnight among the Auckland woolgrowers. Taking three farthings as the average advance per pound over the realisations of November, 1927, it represents £7 per bale, or over £20,000 more on the total offering.
