(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DANNEVIKKE, This Bay. At a meeting of the Provincial Exeeutivo of tlio Southern Hawkes Bay Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Major M'Donnell suggested that it should forward a letter congratulating Mr. W. J. Poison, president of the Now Zealand Farmers' Union, on securing a scat in Parliament. Mr. J. Livingston, president of the Southern JFawkcs Bay Branch, and a member of tho Dominion Executive, who presided, declined to accept tho motion. "We, as n union," he said, "are opposed- to politics. Wo have, to keep out of them, and I cannot accept the motion." lie admitted that there was nothing to prevent the members offering congratulations individually, but immediately they did so as an organised body of tho Farmers' Union they were associating thomsolves with a particular party and getting mixed up in party politics. Mr. M'Donnell: "He does not belong to any party." A member: "Mr. Poison belongs to tho Independent Party." Another member: "None of us know at present which side he is on." The chairman persisting in his attitude, the subject was allowed to drop.
