"SILVER BETTING"

(By Telegraph.—Press Association,) AUCKLAND, 22na Nov. Charged with carrying on the business of a bookmaker, Leslie George Donaldson, aged 29, was fined £20 in the Magistrate's Court to-day. The chief detective said Donaldson was a "silver bettor," carrying on in a small way, principally among wharf labourers. Ha had been fined £20 fror a similar offence previously. .. Counsel said the accused, who was out of employment, was married and had a family. j The Magistrate (Mr. Hunt), in imposing tho. fine, gave the accused two weeks in which to pay it.
