DESTRUCTION OF HAWKS
■ The recent,.'hawks' legs competition promoted by: the Whaiigarei Acclimatisation Society among the . primary schools throughout the Whaiigarei Acclimatisation district: proved most successful (states an exchange). The destruction 0f'460 hawks during the three months .over which 'the' competition was: spread is considered to be most gratifying. Since' the inception of the^o competitions much good work in' tho destruction of hawks has been accomplished and has: proved of iuestimable value to the society in the preservation of imported and native game. . ■ ..-.-. The school winning the Jirst prize forwarded seventy-two pairs of legs, and the one placed second sent in fortysix pairs. The third prize was' equally divided between two schools, each re-j turning thirty pairs.
