HATAITAI METHODIST CHURCH.

The celebrations in connection with, the opening of the new church at Hataitai were advanced a stage on Wednesday night with an . "old-time" tea, followed by a public" meeting', in the old church building, made gay -with flags, and flowers. A tea was served by tlie ladies of the congregation. „The meeting which followed was presided "over by Mr. 11. E. Moston, chairman of the new Building Committee. The chairman recalled some of the more interesting ...features of the building campaign. Ho expressed the thanks of the trustees for the special orwk of Mr. Bvighting, and praised the choir leaders, Messrs. Duncan ■ and' Cole, the soloists, and all those "who throughout the campaign had given splendid service. Other ■ speakers were the chairman of the 'district .(the Rev. E. D. Patchett), Mr. C. M. Luke, and the Rev. IS. P. Blamires. Mr. -Patchett, in congratulating tlie officers and members, referred to the short history of Kilbirnie as a separate event and the great strides made by it, instancing the' fact that whereas ut the time' of separation there were three preaching places with one regular minister in the circuit, there wore now four preaching places with three ministers. Mr. Blamires, a former minister of the Kilbirnie Church, recounted much interesting, history connected with the beginning of the work in the eastern suburbs. The duet/'.^'Lovc Divine, All Love Excelling," was finely rendered by. Mr. H. Phipps and Miss Brittaiu, who /also sang solos. The choir again gave great enjoyment in ..musical, numbers. To-hiorr.ow the celebrations will bo continued at 10.50 and 7, when the Rev. E. T. Olds, a—former minister, will occupy the pulpit, and special music will be rendered by the' choir.
