CAMPAIGN NOTES

WHAT CANDIDATES ARE SAYING TAXJiNG THE PEOPLE'S POOD. "The tax on wheat put on by the Reform Party to buy the votes of the Southern wheat-growers," said Mr. A. B. Sievwright at Otaki last night, means an imposition of approximately os a bushel on all fowl wheat. This is,a serious handicap to those who raise poultry, whether in a small way or are engaged in raising poultry as a business. It means a serious increaso in the cost of living. Eggs could be reduced by approximately 25 ! per cent, to 30 per cent, of their present price if it were not for this tax. Surely the Beforin Government deserves the severest condemnation for taxing the food of the people."
