TANGI AT TE KITH (By Telegraph.—Press Association.,' TE KUITI, This Day. Tho death occurred at To Kuiti on Thursday of Mr. George N. Hetut, one of the oldest surviving Maoris connected with the history of the North Island, especially the King Country. He was 84 years' of age, and the head of one of the families who were the founders of Te Kuiti and Otorohanga. Uis father was a Frenchman, Louis Hetct, who came to New Zealand in 1834 in charge of a whaling expedition and went back to France to return with sheep, cattle, and wheat and start farming here. He married Kangi Tuatohi, a chieftainess of the Manipote tribe. There were four children, George being the eldest. George has descendants numbering over 200, including 86 grandchildren, 10!5 great granchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. During the war 34 of his descendants served with the Now Zealand Forces. A tanpi is being held in Te Kuiti Pa, where Natives are in attendance from all parts of the North Island.
