HOLOCAUST OF WRECKAGE
SEARCH FOR VICTIMS, British Official Wlreleu. EUGBY, 14th October. The railway disaster which occurred early yesterday morning at Charfield, Gloucestershire, was one of the .worst that has occurred on British railways in recent years. Owing to the charred and dismembered condition of the remains of victims discovered among the wreckage, it has so far been impossible to determine definitely the number killed. It is, however, feared that thirteen passengers and the guard of the express train have lost their lives, and of those injured nine have been detained in hospital. The wreckage was searched continuously throughout yesterday and last' night by rail' way workers and volunteers at great personal' risk, owing to the flames which enveloped the ' telescoped coaches. " The passenger train engine turned over on its side on to" the opposite line on which the goods train was passing. A considerable quantity of wreckage piled up. around the engine became ignited, and four of the vehicles of the passenger train were completely burned before the fire could be extinguished.
