SOMETHING TO MAKE
Cut out two little boats, pointed at both ends, as shown on the diagram, and join together with two cross battens as shown. Quite thin wood will do, but you must keep the. cross battens clear of the water. Now get a wooden wheel, one of those wooden wheels which are ' attached to little toy carts or trains will do very well, and to this fit some pieces of tin to form "paddles," as shown on Fig. 1. In the centre of the wheel fix two screw-eyes, or, better still, first fit in a wooden plug (see Fig. 1), and to this fix the screw-eyes. Now, if some thin strip elastic is fitted to the screw-eyes, and is then carried to the wire supports, shown iii Fig. 2 (these you must fix as far out on the boats as possible), the paddle-wheel will- revolve freely when it is wound up. ■ Two little flags fixed to ordinary pins help to make the-boat look pretty.
