LAST OF THE OLD S.TAND To prepare the way for the erection of a new grandstand at Athletic Park, the demolition of the old stand, which' has served for over thirty years, was com* menced to-day. The contract for' the1 new structure has been let to Mr. A. Vi Swanson at a price stated to.be in the vicinity of £25,000, and the work is. to bs completed before next season. .. , , . Fqr years past the stand and dressingroom accommodation . at Athletic" Park has been inadequate for tho requirements of the public and the players, - but there have been difficulties in the way of making the big improvements when the Wei-, lington. Rugby Union has * previously endeavoured to carry out its proposals. At last, the union is in a position to go'right ahead with the work which will bring the Park into line with notable playing grounds in other parts of the world. . Not only iwill, the new stand have seating accommodation for 4600 people, hut it will also have dressing-rooms, etc.,.'. fitted . out.1 on modern, lines. . .•••■■!
