AVIATORS AND RED CROSS
Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and Flight-Lieut. Ulm, in conversation with the secretary of the New Zealand Bed Cross Society expressed regret that
owing to the shortness of their stay in Wellington they were unable to visit the disabled ex-service men at the Red Cross Home, .Hobsou street. Unfortunately tho telegram, of welcome and invitation from tho ex-service patients to visit the home, sent to reach the airmen when they alighted, . miscarried, and it *was not until the greater part of their stay in Wellington had elapsed that they received the' wire. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and his men hope to visit the patients at the homo on their return to Wellington. The party spoke appreciatively of the work of the Red Cross during and since the war, and hoped that tho good work on behalf of the soldiers would continue. By way of helping tho society Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and his companions had, prior to leaving Sydney, autographed a number of specially-printed cards bearing the Red Cross emblem. These they brought over from Australia in the Southern Cross, and handed over to tho Red Cross Society in New Zealand to dispose of. They hoped that the disposal of the cards would result in a substantial contribution being made to the society's funds.
