LEAGUE AND SLAVERY
BRITAIN'S PROMPT ACTION SIERRA LEONE EMANCIPATION British Official Wlrelesj. (Received 18th September, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 17th September. Commenting on the report on slavery submitted by Mr. Godfrey LockerLainpson, British Under-Secretary for ■ Foreign Affairs, before the sbcth Committee of the League of Nations at Geneva this morning, M. Eappard, the Swiss delegate, called particular attention to the fact that since the last session slavery had been completely abolished in the Sierra Leone Protectorate through most active and prompt- action of the British Government. He recalled how within only two months of the judicial decision being given concerning the rights of owners over slaves, the council of Sierra Leone voted a law finally emancipating all slaves in the Protectorate numbering some hundred thousand. Mr. Locker-Lampson was unanimously appointed reporter of the slavery question before the Assembly.
