A COLD WEEK-END TUIS IN EVIDENCE (From Our Own Correspondent.) NELSON, 17th Scplcinlji-i-. During the week-end a team of twelve local golfers played tlic Marlborough Club at Blenheim in the annual match for the Moore-Ucid Cup. Nolsqn won the cup last year on the Tahuna links, but were beaten ou Saturday by a substantial margin. Friendly games/were also played, and tlio Marlbbfo'iigh Club entertained tlio Nelson team in a most hospitable manner. Many of the Nelson visitors went over in time to see the arrival of the Tasman airmen from Christchnvch, and spent part of the evening with them at their hotel. The weather over tho .week-end was gold and showery, and to-day a bitterly cold wind, is blowing from tho southwest, and it is snowing on the ranges. Noel Grant (wrongly given on Saturday ,as : AVilliam), who fell thirty feet from, tho scaffolding of the Majestic Theatre, is reported to bo progressing favourably. lli3 injuries are not serious. The annual Motor Traders' Confer once opens to-morrow morning in the Oddfellows' Hall. It is expected that 160 delegates will take part, and important matters concerning the trade are to be discussed. Tho visitors wilt bo welcomed to Nelson by the Mayor (Mr. \V. J.- JUoffatt). . Several trips to places of interest are being arranged; .also a golf match. Non-golfers are to be taken over Kickpatrick's and Griffin's factories, and the Cawthron Institute. Tuis aro more than usually numerous in and around the town just now, and their liquid notes may be heard morning and evening. Any garden having kowhai tree's is sure-to be visited by theso beautiful birds,, which are com paratively tame, and may be quito closely watched as they hover about. Mrs. Evans was entertained by oldgirls and personal friends at the Girls' College on Saturday evening. Among those present were tho principals and staffs of the colleges, the members of the Board of Governors and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. W. Houlker. Miss Wilding, Miss Mitchell, Mrs. Monyih an, and Miss Hunter • Brown. Miss Mills, principal of the Girls' College, presided. Several musical items were rendered,.and a dainty supper was provided. The evening was. a most enjoyable one.. Mr. "Walter Ingle is at present visiting Nelson. . . Mrs. W. C. Harley has returned to Nelson after spending somo weeks in the North Island.
