A CHEERING CROWD
OUTSIDE THE TOWN HALL Outside tiie Town Hall tlio enthusiasm was as great as that inside. Long beforo noon, the appointed hour of the civic reception, every available seat in the Town Hall was occupied, people, in fact, starting to arrive in order to make sure of a seat as early as 9 o'clock. Gradually the crowd outside the building swelled'in size until by noon it numbered some thousands. When the airmen arrived :n their cars .they, were given a rousing reception, everybody endeavouring to catch a glimpse of the heroes of the trans-Tasman flight, but many were disappointed. Throughout the Town Hall proceedings those outside were able to hear very clearly what, was going on inside, through the public address system installed by Messrs. Standard Telephones and Cables (Australasia), Ltd., which amplified and broadcasted to the waiting crowd the organ, the speeches, and the applause. When the airmen loft the Town Hall after the pivia reception the crowd, which had by this time considerably increased in numbers, gave them a rousing send-off.
