BOOMING IN BRITAIN
♦ MACHINE TOOL TRADE British Official Wireleii. RUGBY, 14th September. Sir Alfred Herbert, president of tho Machine Tool Trades Federation, which is holding an exhibition at Olympia, has sent a letter to the Press, in which ho says, "The machine tool tra le is rightly looked t>pon as one of the oaroinetric industries. It is the basis on which all manufacture ultimately depends. In common with most other industries, it has passed through periods of depression since the war, but at tho exhibition at Olympia there is most widespread optimism. This is not without foundation. Tho volume of'orders J[ on hand in the industry is greater than at any time siuce 1020, and many machine tool manufacturers are- unable to cope with tho demand, in spite of the fact that' overtime is general throughout tlio country and night shifts arc being worked in - many engineering, shops." .
