BRIDGE AND TUNNEL
CANADA AND STATES iUICK MODERN TRANSPORT (From "The Post's" Representative.) NEW YORK, Bth August. A new link, piercing- the water boundary between Canada, and the United States, is about to bo forged in. tlio shape of a tunnel fov vehicular traffic to connect Detroit ami Windsor, Ontario, at a cost of £10,000,000. Associated with the- project, and included in tho cost -will be the world's largest ■+vii bridge to join the border cities. Giant dredges, wielding soven-ton tmakcts, havo begun eating into the opposite shores of tho Detroit Biver to propare tho approaches of tho tunnel, which will bo finaneod with American and Canadian capital. The tunnel will be thirty feet below the river, and will be- constructed of steel and reinforced concrete. Work is to be completed in two years. The subway will be brilliantly illuminated and equipped with signals, telephones, and a sidewalk. It will have all modern ventilating and safety devices, similar to those in tho Holland tunnel here. - Two tubes will be provided, each for one-way traffic, permitting of uniform speed of thirty-five joilcs an hour. Continuous bus services will be provided between the terminals. The bridge will be 55ft wide, with a roadway sufficient to accommodate five lines of traffic. It is to bo .1 18501't span, and will stand 100 ft abovo tho water.
