OTAGO V. WELLINGTON
The above match was advanced a further stage on Thursday afternoon, when Mr J. J. Marlow, of the Otago Chess Club, passed through Wellington,^ route from Auckland to Dunedin. His game the Wellington Chess Club, was begun at 4.30 pm. m the chess room of the Working Men's Club. The visitor had first move to which Mr. M'Crea replied with the French defence. A good fightin" game ensued, during which Mr. M'Crea Vn ia ?jDt^c Pawn —an advantage that lie still held when play had to bo abandoned shortly after 7 p.m., to enable Mr. Marlow to catch the southern steamer. This game will therefore be included with the others that were left unfinished on Monday last, and reserved for negotiation between the two captains.
