PETONE CRICKET CLUB
The annual meeting of the Petono Cricket Club, held on Thursday evening, was largely attended, and the enthusiasm, manifested augurs well for another successful season. 11l the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr. H. Ryder), Mr. W. S. Brice, club captain, presided. The report and balance-sheet showed that in' every respect the 1927-28 season had been very successful.. All teams entered in the various grades had done well, the third Al had carried off that grade championship's honours, and the third B was just beaten for first place in its division. The senior ami junior teams had also done very well, the former occupying fifth position on the championship ladder, and the seconds occupying third place in that grade. Regret was expi'essed at the loss of several prominent club players since the close of the season, due to removal from the district. Thanks were expressed to the ladies who had provided afternoon tea at the Petone Recreation Ground throughout the season, to the gentlemen who had helped the club funds, and to others who had assisted the club. The balance-sheet showed a credit of about £70, and no liabilities. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the members on the success of the season, and especially on the financial position of the club. Hamilton, senior (all re-elected). B. Lippitt, C. Nissen, E. Coley, E. Jones, and A. Greening; lion, secretary, Mr. Bruce Fleet; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. Martin (re-elected); club captain, Mr. A. K. Hamilton; committee, Messrs.. G. Fairbairn, J. Sharpe, W. A. Cate, L. Pointon, J. Martin, L. Bryant, J. O'Callaghan, Smallwood, T. Ritchie, L. Laracy; delegates to W.C.A.,. Messrs. W. S. Brioe. Roy Johnston, G. Fairburil, and L. Reyling. Several new members were elected. It was decided to open the season on 29th September when the club's patron, Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., will be invited to bowl the first ball.
