OLYMPIC SPRINT CHAMPION PERCY WILLIAMS WELCOMED Australian Press AModttlon. (Received 15th September, 10 a.m.) VANCOUVER, 14th Sept. The homecoming of Percy Williams, the Canadian Olympic sprint champion, to his native town was. the occasion of tremendous excitement and enthusiastic celebrations in Vancouver. Thousands thronged the streets, and a cheering procession over.a mile long escofted the runner, his mother, and; trainer to Stanley Park, where a huge crowd gathered. The whole, city practically made holiday. Bob Grainger, the, trainer, was presented with, a purse of 500 dollars, aud a fund-of 25,000 dollars to provide Percy with a university education is being raised. The Premier, Mr. S. F. Tolmie, senators, members of Parliament, and civic officials united to honour the local hero. The Mayor presented the city's gift of an automobile. ■ ... . Percy Williams, described as the 19----year-old Vancouver schoolboy, put up a record performance at Amsterdam by winning both the sprint events, 100 metres and 200 metres, against the world's best, including Charles Paddock. .••'-.-• . i
